| What makes an awning a motorhome awning and not a caravan awning?
A motorhome awning is designed to stand alone so that you can drive away and leave the awning on the site. It is attached to the side of your camper van or motor home with a sleeve arrangement. In contrast a caravan awning uses the caravan as the fourth side for support.
An alternative to the stand-alone awning is the roller
or pullout awning such as those from Omnistor.
These are built onto the side or roof of your vehicle and
are extended manuallly, or some are motorized, when you
are on site. These can have side walls or 'safari-rooms'
added to enclose the space.
Should I buy a stand-alone awning or a roller awning?
Both have pros and cons. A stand alone awning you can simple put up and leave on site when you want to make a short trip. However, you must erect the awning and store and transport it. A roller awning is conveniently attached to your motorhome and takes moments to unroll, however, you must stow it (and everything you may have under it) every time you move your vehicle, you must also watch out for potential damage due to tree branches hitting the casing whilst travelling.
Stand-alone or roller we can supply you with whichever
suits your needs best.
